Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead ITAD Technician to oversee the testing, repair, quality control, and processing of off-lease and returned IT assets—primarily laptops, desktops, and peripheral devices. This role combines hands-on hardware repair expertise with quality control and depot logistics to ensure all processed inventory meets strict functional, physical, and data security standards (R2V3).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform triage and component harvesting from non-functional units.
  • Execute standard OS loading, BIOS updates, and firmware configuration.
  • Quality Control (QC)
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing assets to verify grade (Cosmetic A/B/C/D) and functional condition against standard ITAD metrics.
  • Ensure data sanitization standards (e.g., NIST 800-88, DoD) are fully met and audit logs are accurate before assets move to inventory.
  • Conduct final audits on repaired or refurbished units to prevent non-conforming items from reaching clients or resale channels.
  • Depot & Inventory Support
  • Assist with depot receiving, unboxing, palletizing, sorting, and logging incoming assets into the ERP system.
  • Track part movement, maintain an organized parts inventory, and flag low stock for commonly used replacement hardware.
  • Prepare bulk shipments for downstream re-marketing, recycling, or return-to-client processing.
  • Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Guide and mentor junior technicians on best practices for repair, ESD safety, and testing procedures.
  • Help optimize processing workflows to improve throughput and yield rates.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in laptop repair, refurbished electronics, or ITAD processing operations.
  • Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with major OEM hardware (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple), diagnostic tools, component replacement, and BIOS settings.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of industry standards and regulations, including R2v3, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and global e-waste directives (e.g., WEEE).
  • Data Security Knowledge: Familiarity with NIST 800-88 standards and commercial data wiping software
  • Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA A+, OEM Certifications (Dell, HP, Apple Certified Technician), or R2v3 / RIOS awareness.
  • Meticulous Attention to Detail: High standard for accuracy and quality control; understands that the small things matter when inspecting hardware, logging serial numbers, and wiping drives.
  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods within a warehouse/depot environment.
