Storm said 106 Tesla battery units were arriving at Langerlo on October 22, 2026.

Why it matters: The planned facility would store electricity when supply is abundant and return it when demand rises. Belgium's energy regulator says storage and other flexibility tools will become more important as renewable production grows.

  • Storm says Langerlo is designed for 100 MW of power and 400 MWh of storage, a nominal four-hour duration.
  • Storm expects commissioning in summer 2027 at the nearly two-hectare Genk-Zuid site.
  • H4A lists 104 units for the project, while Storm's October 22, 2026 update refers to 106 Tesla Megapack 2XL units.
  • Storm says Langerlo and its Ruien battery park are part of an investment program worth approximately €330 million.

Updated October 23, 2026. Storm said in an October 22, 2026 update that 106 Tesla Megapack 2XL units were arriving at its Langerlo project in Genk-Zuid, Belgium. The statement reports the shipment and says the batteries should be in their final positions by early November, followed by electrical connections and finishing work.

Storm's 106-unit figure differs from the 104 units listed by contractor H4A on its project page. Neither company explains the difference. Storm's figure is used here for the October 22 shipment report; H4A's figure is presented as its separate project-page count. The documents do not provide an independent confirmation of either unit count or the shipment.

Storm describes Langerlo as a 100 MW, 400 MWh facility that will absorb electricity when supply is abundant and feed it back into the grid when demand rises. Storm expects commissioning in summer 2027.

H4A says the installation will use a 150 kV connection through Elia, 27 transformers and roughly 1 kilometer of low-voltage cabling. The site occupies nearly two hectares at the former coal-fired power station.

Belgium's energy regulator CREG provided independent context in an October 23, 2026 statement, saying renewable production may increasingly exceed what the country can consume, store or export. CREG recommended market-based flexibility, including storage and demand response, before emergency grid-defense measures. Its statement does not independently confirm the Langerlo shipment or project schedule.

Storm places the combined investment program for Langerlo and Ruien at approximately €330 million. The documents do not identify a separate Langerlo construction cost.

By the numbers

  • 100 MW - planned power capacity
  • 400 MWh - planned storage capacity
  • Summer 2027 - Storm's expected commissioning timetable

Yes, but: The central unit count remains unresolved: Storm reports 106 arriving units, while H4A lists 104 for the project, with no explanation from either company.

What's next: Storm says the batteries should be in their final positions by early November 2026, followed by electrical connections and finishing work. Commissioning is expected in summer 2027.
